-colourful dining nook-

an antidote to boring white!

Ok so tis Easter and I’m bringing all the spring has sprung yellow vibes (well 3/4 of them anyway!) courtesy of the bf’s kitchen! Essentially after the Christmas decorations (yep-AGES ago!) had departed and the twinkling of fairy lights amongst my finest Hygge fashioning had come to an end I felt bereft and quite honestly bored of the plain white wall I was faced with…

SO the Pinterest hunt began… the magazine trawling kicked off as I willed for some inspiration to come my way for some wall vamping that wasn’t just my usual ‘put a collection of pictures up’ tactic… I really was officially over brilliant white. Yep. It happened.

The stools in the kitchen have bright yellow legs and there was a teeny yellow table so after initially looking for perhaps a green or blue statement wall, decided actually a pop of yellow would be beaut… but finding something I wanted to do took me ages. Until a few weeks ago when having a peruse of a magazine that priced at a whole tenner is definitely more keepsake book genre than mere mag -‘Modern Rustic’ by Country Living (FULL of such gorgeous places/people/products) All with a very organic, collated aesthetic AND the paper is really thick so yep essentially a book. Amongst pic’s of a London artist’s reworked cottage was a simple yellow bedroom wall that captured me immediately and decided I would be recreating and paying homage to that VERY day (insert magic sparkle emoji) The quest was over!!

SO i marked up on the wall roughly the absolute maximum height I wanted the yellow to go to and just got to it with the roller n my 90’s playlist. As it was a random pattern I just tried to be as irregular as I could-probably easier said then done if I’m honest as my brain is mainly looking to balance stuff out by default! But a few coats on and some teeny touch up work, some plant and picture placements later the wee dining corner (that actually pre christmas was a designated office and general dumping ground space) was now a sunshine filled colourful spring like space! The yellow really bounces the sun into the room and just feels lovely especially in the morning light, the new woven metallic + jute rug (HALF PRICE sale barg!) from Habitat brings the space together and also reflects the light coming in form the french doors beautifully. The forsythia bush got raided for a final flourish -which teamed perfectly with the 5year old’s freehand artwork upon the benches! I LOVE IT!

(Even if 90% of people have asked when I’m going to finish it…) Happy Eastering!!
